Highlights
What We Love
- One of a handful of lodges in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
- Rustic-chic chalets crafted from sustainable local materials
- Hot rain showers to warm up after intense gorilla trekking
When To Visit
Peak Season: December to February June to August
Trekking is easier as there's less mud but gorillas may push further into the forest, making treks longer
Green Season: March to May September to November
Paths can be muddy and slippery but more easily available food means the gorillas may not roam as far, making treks shorter
Overview
What do you get when you have half the world’s population of mountain gorillas, about 200 butterfly species and at least 14 endemic bird species? The wonder and majesty of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This national park is one of Uganda’s highlights and Buhoma is one of very few lodges found here.
Close to Kihihi Airstrip, Buhoma is a laid-back, cheerful lodge where each room is almost a treehouse of its own. Built from locally sourced timber with the forest in mind, it is an unbeatable base for gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Thoughtful touches – like crackling fireplaces and your muddy boots being whisked away to be cleaned – make all the difference. A larger family unit or honeymoon suite is also available.
