Highlights
What We Love
- A truly remote and little-visited destination for thrilling game viewing
- An intimate camp with only six tents and bygone feeling of safaris past
- Monkeys playing in the tamarind trees above the no-fuss tents
When To Visit
Peak Season: July to October
Animal action intensifies as competition for resources like grazing and water heats up. With thinned-out grass, finding and seeing game is easier
Green Season: June and November
First rains cool down the air and make the dry bush springs to life, enticing back migrant birds and giving grazers time to birth their young
Closed: December to May
Closed during this time
Overview
Because Chada Katavi is closed for six months of the year, the game here is some of the ‘wildest’ in Africa. After not seeing cars or humans much for half a year, their reactions and behaviour are at their most natural and instinctive, making for truly exhilarating sightings. Elephants are vocal and hippos keep up a continuous chortle, as if they’re telling jokes about us underwater…
The camp is also immersed in how the world used to be. With just six tents, it is intimate enough for a whole group to take over and provides a complete break from the intrusions of modernity. Coupled with nature walks on the Chada floodplain and fly-camping under the Milky Way, you’ll relax completely.
