Overview
The Plantation Lodge is in Karatu, a fertile area with easy access to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Lake Manyara National Park on Tanzania’s northern safari circuit. It makes a homely owner-run stopover with large manicured gardens and rooms that are individually designed and laid out so no two are the same. Look out for lovebirds and weavers among the fruit trees and flowers.
Beyond the sparking pool, the wine cellar stocks top South African vintages as well as New World classics like Cloudy Bay from New Zealand – enjoy a glass or two with your four-course dinner. If you crave pampering after roughing it, treat yourself to a massage or a mani-pedi. The lodge is ideal for families and groups.
