CONSERVATION & COMMUNITY
Kyambura Gorge Eco-Tourism Project
Helping organise a collection of community and conservation activities, such as planting seedlings for reforestation, to preserve the chimpanzee habitat of the gorge (newborn chimpanzees are named in an annual ceremony to foster links to them to reduce poaching). Other projects include the creation of a buffer zone around the gorge, beekeeping, wetland restoration and village collectives for coffee production, dance and the maintenance of a village playing field
OVERVIEW
Created from what was once a coffee store, Kyambura Gorge Lodge mixes its past with contemporary décor and facilities so that you can explore Queen Elizabeth National Park in complete comfort. This is a place of the Rwenzori range (known as the Mountains of the Moon), the teeming Kazinga Channel and, of course, the chimpanzee paradise of Kyambura Gorge itself.
The lodge is full of little extras to make your stay extra-special such a butler service, saltwater swimming pool, a tranquil spa and a private vehicle for game drives. Interiors are ‘Afro-chic’ with an emphasis on recycling and upcycling unusual objects. Unusual activities also abound, from planting trees and visiting the sculpture garden to tracking tree-climbing lions in the park!
