Wildlife conservation
The Community Rhino Conservation Initiative has brought white rhinos back to Hwange for the first time in decades. Nehimba also supports anti-poaching training and elephant-proof fencing to reduce human-wildlife conflict

Habitat preservation
The lodge assist with measures such as fireguards, water pumps and boreholes

Community healthcare
The Smile and See Safari gathers dentists and optometrists to attend to villagers’ dental and eyesight problems. It also supports the Ngamo Clinic

Community education
Nehimba contributes to the provision of textbooks, school lunches and food parcels while helping build and renovate classrooms, teacher accommodation, garages, ablution blocks and other school buildings

OVERVIEW

Zimbabwe has one of the biggest elephant populations in Africa, with sightings of up to a thousand a day not unheard of. Being in a 17 600 hectare private concession in Hwange National Park means Nehimba is well placed to make the most of passing pachyderms – its deck is famous for having breeding families press right up against it!

The lodge is near the Nehimba seeps, an ancient source of underground water for villagers and wildlife alike and the nearby Manduva Dam is considered a birder’s paradise. Classic tents are constructed from canvas, thatch and teak and all have vistas of the popular waterhole – you could forego game drives altogether and just stay on your deck for the day!
