Mountain gorilla conservation
Working with communities and researchers to conserve remaining populations in Volcanoes National Park

Community upliftment
A co-operative and equitable arrangement with villagers to supply fresh produce and other goods from land adjacent to Bisate to reduce emissions

Habitat reforestation
Mimicking the park’s natural zones, bamboo and dombea and hagenia trees being planted to recreate a rainforest ecosystem to support returning wildlife. Guests can take part in tree planting under the guidance of an agronomist

Children in the Wilderness
Working with the school pupils of Musanze village to grow saplings and educate them about the importance of conservation and reforestation

Green operations
Electricity is supplied by a hydropower plant and thermodynamic geysers heat water. An above-ground sewage plant treats waste water to prevent groundwater contamination. The lodge catches rainwater and has a reverse osmosis system to reduce reliance on bottled water and cut down on plastic waste. Environmentally friendly detergents and toiletries are used by the housekeeping team

OVERVIEW

One of the most beautifully designed lodges in Rwanda, Bisate’s stylish rooms echo the chambers traditionally crafted for the country’s royal families. Thatched and rounded, they envelop you in a cosy cocoon that is perfect to return to after a day of gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park.

The vistas reach all the way to active Mount Bisoke and show exactly why Rwanda is known as the land of a thousand hills. Although mountain gorillas and golden monkeys are the showstoppers, look out for smaller creatures like the Ruwenzori side-striped chameleon, black-fronted duiker antelope and 13 endemic bird species. And, if your luck is in, Bisate’s private camera traps could pick up a silverback coming to inspect the grounds!
