OVERVIEW
Camelthorn Lodge in south-eastern Hwange National Park takes its name from a gigantic camelthorn around which each of the villas is built. This lovely tree is a reminder of what lies beyond camp: a pristine acacia forest and thriving woodland near the Ngamo Plains, a sure-fire place to see some of Hwange’s thousands of elephants.
Back at the lodge, opt for one of the villas that has a private pool so you can effortlessly move between it, your comfy hammock and your personal starbed that the staff can make up on your raised deck. Camelthorn is arguably the premier lodge in the area and offers welcome amenities like a ‘look-up’ hide and unusual activities like all-day pump-run safaris to check on boreholes.
