OVERVIEW

Combine a gorgeous beach of gently lapping waves and romantic open-air huts with some of the best chimpanzee trekking in the world and you have Mahale Lodge. Situated on the undulating shores of Lake Tanganyika in Mahale Mountains National Park, it is perfect for adventurous travellers who want to be among the few to spend time with habituated chimp families, being amused by their antics and awed by their athleticism.

But chimpanzees aren’t the only wildlife here, let alone the only primates. Beyond the lakeside forest are open grasslands with elephants, lions and antelope – and very few vehicles so you’ll likely have many sightings all to yourself. The lake is a playground for kayaking and catch-and-release fishing – never mind pure relaxation…
