OVERVIEW
It’s a common misconception that the desert is ‘empty’ and that ‘there’s nothing there’. Under the tutelage of the expert guides at Shipwreck Lodge, you’ll quickly see just how much life thrives along Namibia’s fascinating Skeleton Coast. The infamous fogs that have grounded so many ships and planes are also what keep rare desert lichens alive while, further inland, the Hoarusib River supports desert-adapted elephants, vervet monkeys and olive bee-eaters. Don’t be surprised to see springbok on the beach!
The lodge is designed to look like a shipwreck with well-spaced wooden cabins made cosy with crackling fireplaces. More cosiness is provided by snuggly throws and velvet couches – perfect for relaxing on after a day of quad biking, sandboarding and dune walks.
