OVERVIEW
The Winchester is an institution along Cape Town’s famous Sea Point Promenade. Built in the 1920s, its Cape Dutch façade and some historic features – such as the sunny courtyard and ocean-facing public verandas – remain intact while interiors and services are all firmly in the 21st century. Its terrace is a favourite for those wanting to have drinks and watch one of Cape Town’s renowned frothy pink sunsets.
In keeping with a vintage hotel, rooms are individually laid out and have different combinations of balconies, lounge spaces, and sea or mountain views. All, however, open onto a large courtyard festooned with bright bougainvillaea – the perfect place for breakfast or brunch. The Winchester is close to the V&A Waterfront and city centre.
