OVERVIEW
The Ruaha-Rungwa ecosystem comprises five biozones – including miombo woodland – and include the Usangu Wetlands and Ihefu Swamp. Originally inhabited and farmed, the area is now slowly being absorbed into Ruaha National Park. In order to do so responsibly, a careful study needs to be made of which wildlife is present, appearing or disappearing, which is where interested and engaged guests come in. As part of your stay, you can help researchers by doing a game count, placing camera traps, doing telemetry tracking and using infrared cameras on night drives.
A handful of comfortable tents keeps Usangu Expedition Camp intimate and ideal for outdoorsy families. Part-timber vehicles run on ethanol and overnight fly-camping is arranged in cosy ‘star cubes’ with old-fashioned bucket showers.
