OVERVIEW

Three iconic destinations are packed into this exciting itinerary idea that is ideal for couples, honeymooners and keen photographers who want a taste of city life and the relaxation of a safari in one holiday.

You kick off at a historic seaside hotel in one of Cape Town’s most vibrant enclaves that is close to Table Mountain, Robben Island and the V&A Waterfront, with easy road access to the Winelands, Cape Point and African penguins at Boulders Beach. Then you unwind with three nights on a private island before jetting off to one of Zambia’s wildlife kingdoms: South Luangwa National Park on the mighty Luangwa River. Best of all, we take care of all the arrangements so you don’t have to!

THIS ITINERARY WAS DESIGNED BY VERA CASTRO

Having visited both Cape Town and Zambia, Vera was a natural choice to put together this budget-friendly city-and-safari trip that combines accommodation that is both comfortable and outside the ordinary. Vera speaks fluent English and Portuguese – boa viagem!

DAILY ITINERARY

Your time in Cape Town will be filled with natural beauty, thriving city life and the best food and wine the continent has to offer. From your base at The Winchester, you can spend your days sightseeing on your own or allowing us to craft private tours that mirror your interests. Popular options include taking the cable-car up Table Mountain, wine tasting in the southern hemisphere’s oldest vineyards and walking tours of the historic city centre and colourful Bo-Kaap neighbourhood.

Why we love The Winchester:

  • The yesteryear façade melds with contemporary interiors
  • Excellent position to reach the Waterfront, city centre and Seaboard beaches
  • Walking distance to the Sea Point Promenade, a local hotspot
  • Best of Cape Town’s famously beautiful sunset over the Atlantic

It’s a bittersweet farewell to the staff at The Winchester as you depart for a direct flight to Livingstone in Zambia, the hub for visiting the Victoria Falls. You home at the world’s largest falling sheet of water is Tintswalo Siankaba, an intimate lodge on the Zambezi River. Your days will be filled with visiting the Falls, browsing craft markets and revelling in Zambia’s famous friendliness and hospitality. We suggest sleeping late as soon the dawn wake-up calls will begin!

Why we love Tintswalo Siankaba:

  • Just a handful of treehouse tents strung across two private islands
  • Enjoy picnics on the beach with the Zambezi lapping at the sand’s edge
  • Spend time canoeing, boating, birding and enjoying spa treatments
  • End the day with a glorious cruise to admire the sunset

Excitement builds you embark for your flight to Mfuwe International Airport where a Chikunto guide will be waiting for you. Your next four nights before you fly back to Lusaka and from there home, promise game drives, sundowners and all the fresh air you can handle. South Luangwa pioneered walking safaris so bring suitable footwear for a dawn nature walk or two so you can appreciate the smaller fauna and flora in this untouched part of Zambia.

Why we love Chikunto Safari Lodge:

  • Enjoy vistas of Big Bend lagoon – and have your binoculars ready
  • The only counter-current saltwater swimming in South Luangwa
  • Extra-high sleepout platform for 360° views of the bush and night sky
  • Spacious tents amid pristine miombo woodland, an elephant delicacy
